Fill Weight Comparisons

Fill Weight Comparisons

We have noticed some irregularities with fill weights among many sellers or manufacturers of goose down quilts. Thinking it is an important part of buying a quilt we decided to show what our fill weights are compared to others. The other brands are massively UNDER filled. 25-30% under filled!!!

Supreme Quilts has had all of the fillings tested to ensure the fill weights are correct to create a specific blanket warmth so we know our fill weights are correct for our specific downs.

*Feather Factory is also know as Danish Eiderdowns, Alpine Down Quilts and Pillows and Down Quilts. For this we just put them as Feather Factory.

Here is what we found from other brands:

Queen size 90-95% Hungarian Goose Down 4 blanket warmth:

Supreme Quilts: 1000 grams or 225 GSM

Feather Factory/Danish Eiderdowns: 750 grams or 170 GSM

Queen size 90-95% Hungarian Goose Down 7 blanket warmth:

Supreme Quilts: 1500 grams or 340 GSM

Feather Factory/Danish Eiderdowns: 950 grams or 215 GSM

Grays Online: 1250 grams or 280 GSM

Bedding Co: 1225 grams or 275 GSM

King size 90-95% Hungarian Goose down 4 blanket warmth:

Supreme Quilts: 1200 grams or 240 GSM

Feather Factory/Danish Eiderdowns: 900 grams or 180 GSM

King size 90-95% Hungarian Goose Down 7 blanket warmth:

Supreme Quilts: 1680 grams or 340 GSM

Feather Factory/Danish Eiderdowns: 1100 grams or 220 GSM

Bedding Co/Kogan/Temple and Webster: 1400 grams or 280 GSM

The interesting part of this is the massive difference in what you get and how much of it. Our Hungarian Goose down is imported directly from Aro Artlander in Germany. The others? We know the Feather Factory historically has always put the same amount of "Hungarian Goose down" in their quilts as us. Now interestingly and coincidentally the price of Goose down from China has increased enormously over the past 12 months. Is it coincidental that suddenly the amount of down filling now offered by the Feather Factory has dropped by 30%? Is it just coincidental that their fill weight as an example the queen 7 blanket has gone from 1500 grams right down to only 950 grams and yet it is still being sold as a 7 blanket? You cant reduce the fill weight by 30% and still expect it to be the same warmth??

Its the same across all of the range of warmths in Hungarian Goose down and its the same with the Polish Goose down as well.

King Size 95% Polish Goose Down 7 blanket warmth:

Supreme Quilts: 1400 grams or 290 GSM

Feather Factory: 1100 grams or 220 GSM

I can assure you if you buy a 7 blanket warmth from us you will get a 7 blanket warmth and you will be toasty warm on the coldest of nights.

If you buy a Feather Factory 7 blanket you'll actually be getting closer to a 3 1/2 in the "Hungarian" and close to a 5 in the "Polish" and you will be bitterly disappointed and cold. A 3 and 1/2 warmth sold as a 7, that's half of what you would have paid for!! As for the actual filling type they will give you (and where it was imported from), well that's another story! Check our other blogs.

Its a bit of a Cadbury's in that, rather than put the prices up they choose to give you less hoping you wont notice!

*fill weights correct as of 5/09/2021
