USA Sized Medium Density Goose Down & Duck Down Pillows

Choosing a Goose Down or Duck Down Pillow

We at Supreme Quilts try to give as many options as possible because everyone is different; we all have different needs.

Hopefully with all the different options we can get you the right pillow you need to create the best sleep you can possibly have.

Selecting the right size Pillow is where you start. With the Australian standard size, USA standard size, King size as well as European sizes to choose from, it's the first thing to get right. Particularly for our US customers, the sizes internationally do vary slightly.

Most US customers will need the USA Standard size, it's slightly shorter than the Australian standard by around 9cms, however the width is almost identical.

The Australian standard size is also considered the USA queen size pillow. The Australian Standard size is usually the right size for our Australian Customers.

The King pillow is a universal size, it's the same size whether you are in Australia or the USA, its longer than the Australian standard size pillow by 15 cms  and 24 cms longer than US standard size.

The European size is a 65cm squared pillow, commonly used as a decorative pillow and/or for sitting up in bed with.

Next up is to choose the density. We have Soft, Soft-Medium, Medium, Medium-Firm and Firm to choose from.

Choosing the right density is key. A pillow should for most people need to fill the gap between the side of the neck to the base of the shoulder, particularly for side sleepers.

Most people need a medium density pillow. The medium density (for most) covers all sleeping positions, stomach, side and back sleepers.

Smaller framed people usually need a soft density pillow, A soft density pillow tends to be ideal for people under 65kg, stomach sleepers or for children as their first pillow.

Larger framed or broad shouldered people usually but not always need a firm density pillow, over the years we have found people that are 6'5" and/or over 100kg suit the firm density.

When we make, as an example, a soft density pillow, the type of filling used won't determine its density. What changes is the amount of filling we put into it. The higher the fill power (fluffiness) the fill amount reduces. A high fill quality/fill power in a soft density will be the same density as a lower quality/lower fill power. The same principle applies to medium and firm densities.

Our most popular pillow without a doubt is the 95% Premium Polish Mother Goose down. It has a very high 900 fill power which is combined with our German Batiste TE270 cotton fabric, which breathes the best of all the fabric types used for down quilts and pillows. With its high fill power, the down is more resilient to flattening, therefore it stays fluffier longer and lasts longer.

Any of our high down % pillows like 90% Polish, 95% duck down, the 95% Polish Goose downs and 95% Premium Polish Goose downs are going to all be a very high quality. Which down you choose really comes down to how high in quality do you want to go. You wont be disappointed with any of our options.

To summarise, select the right size, then select the density then lastly select which down quality you want to go with that best suits your budget.
